He studied human medicine at the University of Bonn, where he also obtained his doctorate. At the Catholic University in Milan, he also studied economics and international politics. He obtained a Master's degree in Economics and Politics.
He heads an interdisciplinary pain center in Lugano and is the founder of ISOM, a medical second opinion institute. Here, second opinions on surgical indications are issued by a panel of experts made up of renowned professors from Swiss universities.
